ASTMH expresses grave concern regarding President Trump’s proposed Fiscal Year 2026 discretionary budget released May 2, which has the potential to undermine decades of progress in global and domestic health through the severe reduction and, in some cases, elimination of critical funding for institutions that protect lives and advance public health.

Founder and director of ICAP at Columbia University in New York and an international expert in infectious diseases and public health, will kick off this year's Annual Meeting in Toronto on November 9.

These drastic measures threaten to undermine decades of progress in health research and place at risk the critical work being done to combat emerging and enduring diseases that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations here and around the world.

This list of resources should not be considered as any endorsement by ASTMH, CDC/Division of Parasitic Disease and Malaria, CLIA, any accrediting body, nor should it be considered comprehensive.

Two editorials in our Journal are now available online advocating for global health, U.S. public health and biomedical research institutions.

The Society mourns the loss of Dickson Despommier, PhD, a member of the Society's Board of Directors from 1989-1992 and one of the founders of Parasites Without Borders. 

In these deeply troubling times, we offer strong support to all in our community. We are witnessing the drastic changes being imposed by the United States administration regarding global health, yet our Society remains committed to the advancement of science to save and improve lives. We have stood and will continue to stand for excellence in tropical medicine and global health research. 

As the U.S. government withdraws funding for research and programs aimed at public health, 2008 President Claire Panosian Dunavan encourages all ASTMH members to share personal stories with their elected officials, neighbors, friends, schools, service groups and houses of worship, etc.
