Stephen M. Croll, Chief Operating Officer

Steve Croll’s role as the COO is to oversee the IT, finance/accounting, HR and operational functions of ASTMH, ensuring smooth and efficient operations to support the goals of the members of the association. Prior to ASTMH, Steve spent more than 24 years with international development and relief organizations, including Relief International, Tetra Tech ARD, PATH, Pathfinder and The Futures Group. Steve has an MA from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a BA from Occidental College.

What attracted you to ASTMH and what do you bring to the Society?
The initial attraction to ASTMH was the challenge of setting up and implementing systems to help the Society transition to independence.  Having started my career in global health, the underlying long-term attraction to ASTMH was the desire to work for an organization doing important work in global health.

What are your goals for the year?
My goals are to ensure that the systems that support the organization are stable and functioning efficiently to support the work of the Society and its members; and to support the growth and adaptation of the Society as it expands and moves forward.

You attended your first Annual Meeting last fall. What was your impression?
Overwhelming! To see the amount and quality of scientific knowledge being shared and discussed was impressive. The collaborative nature of attendees from all career stages and parts of the globe demonstrated the openness of the Society and the singular focus on improving the lives of those burdened with terrible diseases.
