ASTMH Launches New Virtual Professional Development Learning Series

Posted 13 February 2026

With support from GSK, the Society has launched a new Virtual Professional Development Learning Series created to empower early-career scientists, clinicians and public health professionals around the world—especially those working in and from disease-endemic regions.

This pilot program will take place March through September. The first virtual session in March will focus on writing for scientific journals.

The program prioritizes individuals from disease-endemic regions and those without access to in-person professional development opportunities. The initial cohort of 62 participants were selected from 31 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

There were 461 applicants from 65 countries.

What the Program Offers:
  • Six interactive virtual webinars led by diverse global experts
  • Training on journal writing, grant writing, advocacy, communications and emerging global health trends
  • Opportunities for peer networking and collaboration
  • A certificate of participation for those completing at least four sessions
  • This initiative builds on high-value content traditionally offered at the ASTMH Annual Meeting—now adapted to a fully virtual format to maximize reach and accessibility.
This series adapts and expands upon high-value sessions traditionally offered at the ASTMH Annual Meeting, making them accessible to individuals who may not have the opportunity to participate in person. Each virtual session will be interactive and collaborative, featuring expert presentations, open Q&A discussions and group activities.

Topics to be covered include:
  • Scientific journal writing
  • Grant writing strategies
  • Advocacy and science communication
  • Innovative trends shaping global health
  • Additional skills relevant to early-career professionals
Participants who complete at least four of the six webinars will receive a certificate of participation from ASTMH.
