NIAID Director a Champion for Research, Innovation, Evidence-Based Policies and Funding

ASTMH is pleased to announce that National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony S. Fauci, MD, will speak at TropMed17 on Thursday, November 9.

Advising five U.S. Presidents (awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008) and their Administrations, Dr. Fauci has been on the frontline of the fight against infectious disease for more than three decades. He oversees an extensive research portfolio on established infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, diarrheal diseases, TB, as well as emerging diseases such as Ebola and Zika.
He has also been on the frontline in support of strong NIH funding. A frequent visitor to Capitol Hill, he appeared most recently before the House and Senate Appropriations Committees pushing back on the drastic cuts to NIH, including the elimination of the Fogarty International Center, proposed by the Trump Administration.

"We are excited and honored that Dr. Fauci has accepted our invitation to speak at the 2017 Annual Meeting," said ASTMH President Patricia F. Walker, MD, DTM&H, FASTMH. "He is a brilliant scientist, a caring physician, a champion for research and actively engages with the public helping them understand science.”
