International Credit Cards
If you have trouble with an international credit card transaction, please contact the bank that issued your credit card. If you are sure you entered the information correctly and it failed, DO NOT try to complete the transaction again and again. Your bank will put a hold on these funds. The bank holds usually clear in about a week. Most errors occur for the following reasons: your bank does not authorize international transactions or limits the amount, or you do not have sufficient credit/funds on your card. Please note that ASTMH does not have your money if the transaction fails—we cannot refund what we did not receive.
Here are a few reasons why international credit card transactions might be declined:
- Travel Notifications: If you haven't informed your bank or card issuer about your travel plans, they might flag international transactions as suspicious.
- Unusual Purchases: Large or atypical purchases can trigger fraud alerts.
- Credit Limits: Exceeding your credit limit can result in a declined transaction.
- Incorrect Payment Information: Errors in card details like expiration date or billing address can cause issues.
- Foreign Currency Transactions: Sudden transactions in foreign currency can break your usual spending pattern and be flagged.
- False Positives: Sometimes legitimate transactions are mistakenly flagged as fraudulent.
