2021-22 Pre-Doc/Post-Doc Board Members
Bartholomew N. Ondigo, PhD
NIAID
9000 Rockville Pike
Bethesda, Maryland 20892
"As a Board member representing trainees, I will leverage the position to encourage ASTMH pre- and post-doc trainees to pursue their career with the Society as their professional home. I believe that working with ASTMH membership offers resources that include databases, the Journal, specialist interest groups, networking opportunities and career advice for trainees to maximize in an equitable and respectful way for successful career trajectory and impact to communities."
Amanda Elyssa Ruiz, PhD (Candidate)
Brown University
Providence, RI
"As the Board Member representing students, trainees, residents and post-docs, I will utilize the position’s platform to be a tireless champion of ASTMH’s goals. I hope to work with the ASTMH leadership to expand professional development resources and opportunities, as well as create a diverse, inclusive and supportive network of tropical medicine and global health researchers. "
In 2018, for the first time in ASTMH’s history, students, trainees, residents and post-docs were elected to the Board of Directors. This was accomplished by the membership, which voted to change the Society’s bylaws and add two voting member seats to the Board filled by pre-docs and/or post-docs. The first election took place in summer 2018 and terms began after the Annual Meeting in New Orleans in October 2018. The Society understands the value and importance of having these voices in this high-level leadership role that focuses on strategy and fiduciary responsibilities.

”Trainees are our future and our hope, and there is no greater role of ASTMH than to cultivate and advance their professional development. This includes formal programs such as symposia and abstract presentations, pre-meeting courses, research and travel support, and through the informal networking and mentoring that comes with being a member and attending our Annual Meeting and other events with the brightest minds in tropical medicine and global health.” – 2022 President Daniel G. Bausch, MD, MPH&TM, FASTMH |
