ASTMH Co-Hosts Malaria in the Americas Forum 2019

ASTMH co-hosted a Malaria Day in the Americas event in Washington, DC, on November 6, the day when the presence of malaria parasites in the blood of patients with febrile symptoms was first observed by Charles Louis Lavéran in 1880.
 
Short films were shown from the top three finalists for the 2019 PAHO Malaria Champions of the Americas Award, which recognized projects reducing malaria cases in Brazil, Guatemala and Honduras. All were part of the new Municipalities for Zero Malaria initiative and illustrated the theme of the forum, “Zero malaria starts with me: Perspectives from the frontlines.”
