ASTMH Call for Award Nominations
ASTMH will present the following honors this year at the society's 57th Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Submit your nomination on line by June 3. The online application site will open the week of May 12 (or later, depending on the award).
Application materials include a letter of nomination (approximately 4,000 character limit) and the nominee’s curriculum vitae. Please collect these items prior to submitting your online nomination.
Bailey K. Ashford Medal. For distinguished work in tropical medicine. Customarily it is given to an individual in mid-career (within twenty years of PhD or MD). Nomination deadline: June 3, 2008.

Walter Reed Medal. To recognize distinguished accomplishment in the field of tropical medicine. Nomination deadline: June 3, 2008.

Harry Hoogstraal Medal. The American Committee of Medical Entomology (ACME) Executive Council requests nominations for the 2008 Hoogstraal Medal. The award, which honors the contributions of Harry Hoogstraal, is given to those who have demonstrated outstanding achievements and lifelong service in the field of medical entomology. Any living medical entomologist that is not currently serving on the ACME executive council is eligible for nomination. Self-nominations will not be accepted. Nominees not selected in previous years may be submitted again. The ACME executive council will review the nominations and select a recipient for the medal to be awarded at the 2008 ASTMH meeting. Dalrymple/Young Award. The Dalrymple-Young Award is presented approximately every other year. This award honors the memories of Nathaniel Young and Joel Dalrymple, outstanding human beings and scientists who left us far too early. The award is presented to a person in mid-career who has made significant scientific contributions representing or leading to advances in virology. The awardee will have a record of outstanding publications and is recognized as a leader in the field. Further, the awardee should be an active member of the American Committee on Arthropod-Borne Viruses (ACAV) and be a mentor to younger scientists, generous with her or his time, and otherwise represent the best of our field. This award is administered by the American Committee on Arthropod-Borne Viruses (ACAV). Nomination deadline: September 30, 2008.

Communications Award. The Communications Award recognizes exceptional achievement in tropical medicine journalism with the potential to educate readers and inform public policy regarding diseases and health conditions specific to poor and underserved populations. This award honors an individual author (or authors contributing to a body of work) as opposed to an employer, publisher or institution. Eligible entries will include feature-length newspaper articles, magazine articles or series. Articles published solely online and broadcast journalism will not be considered at this time. Original research or technical reports, newsletter articles and promotional copy are not eligible for the award. Download application guidelines at www.astmh.org/awards/comm.cfm.
