ACME Student Travel Award

Application Deadline: Spring 2012

An award of $300 USD is available to support travel and accommodation costs for a graduate student attending the Annual Meeting. The award includes a complimentary Annual Meeting registration. Applicants must present their research either orally or in poster format during the Annual Meeting. The subject matter of the presentation should involve directly or indirectly arthropods of medical importance.

ACME Objectives

The American Committee of Medical Entomology (ACME), is organized under the auspices of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) and exists to work toward the following objectives:

  1. To promote medical entomology in the ASTMH and in organizations whose scopes of activities include the area of human diseases transmitted by arthropods
  2. To organize symposia or workshops annually that emphasize, but are not limited to, the contributions of medical entomology to tropical medicine
  3. To encourage active participation of medical entomologists in the ASTMH
  4. To recognize outstanding contributions by medical entomologists
  5. ACME meets at least annually in conjunction with the ASTMH annual meeting.

Hoogstraal Award

The Harry Hoogstraal Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Medical Entomology. Nominations for the Harry Hoogstraal Medal for outstanding Achievement in Medical Entomology may be submitted in writing by any ACME member to the ACME chairperson. Each year, the Executive Council shall consider all nominations so submitted as well as any nominations submitted orally by Council members, and decide whether to make an award at the business meeting to be held during the following year. Any living medical entomologist not serving on the Executive Council is eligible to be selected to receive the award.

Arthropod Containment Guidelines (ACG)

The following links are to the various versions of the ACG as well as ancillary materials that have been produced during the development of the Guidelines. Many must be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

The Arthropod Containment Guidelines were published in Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases in 2003 and are available free at the publisher's Web site.

Arthropod Containment Guidelines version 3.1
Version 3.1 differs from 2.3 in the removal of field recommendations. Field sites are defined. Other minor changes to wording. This version has been submitted to the ACME executive council for consideration to be completed in early 2002.
