Awards and Funding

ASTMH Travel Award
Limited funding is available to support annual meeting travel of selected students, young investigators and scientists actively working in the tropical medicine field. Travel award applicants participate in the meeting through oral or poster presentations and are selected based on abstract quality, research results and career development potential. Applicants need not be ASTMH members. The application deadline was April 13.  Notices were sent to applicants in late August.

Young Investigator Award
ASTMH will present the Young Investigator Award to outstanding young researchers during the annual meeting. This award encourages developing young scientists to pursue careers in various aspects of tropical disease research. Download the presentation schedule.

American Committee on Arthropod-Borne Viruses (ACAV) Kelly Labell Student Travel Award

Limited funding is available to support travel and accommodation costs for a graduate student attending the ASTMH Annual Meeting. Student registration costs for the annual meeting will be waived for the award winner. The award will be made to a graduate student who is conducting research on Eastern Equine Encephalitis or other mosquito-borne viral diseases. Applicants must present their research either orally or in poster format during the ASTMH meeting. 

American Committee of Medical Entomology (ACME) Student Travel Award
Limited funding is available to support travel and accomodation costs for graduate student attending the ASTMH Annual Meeting. Student registration costs for the annual meeting will be waived for the award winner. Applicants must present their research which directly or indirectly involves arthropods of medical importance either orally or in a poster format during the ASTMH meeting. 

Elsevier Clinical Research Award
This award recognizes excellence in clinically oriented research presented by a student at the annual meeting. 

Communications Award

The Communications Award recognizes exceptional achievement in tropical medicine journalism, which educates lay readers and informs public policy regarding diseases and health conditions of poor and underserved populations. Eligible entries include feature-length newspaper articles, magazine artilces or series published in lay-oriented periodicals. Nominations may be made by any ASTMH member, including the author, as well as non-ASTMH members who are the authors of self-submitted works.
