Global Health Career Night
As an educational outreach effort, ASTMH makes materials available
for medical schools and institutions of higher learning to host "Global
Health Career Nights." If a school wishes to host such a night, ASTMH
will provide:
-
Two copies of "Karl M. Johnson, MD: Life and Legend of a Leader in
Tropical Virology," an hour-long DVD that recounts the life story of the
revered tropical medicine pioneer.
-
An informational poster/brochure set designed to introduce ASTMH to
students.
An evening on campus can then be organized by the host school,
which includes a screening of the DVD — a riveting personal and
scientific saga — followed by an informal panel discussion led by
local experts on careers in global health and tropical medicine.
Not long ago, a similar evening at UCLA drew almost 100 attendees from
medical and public health students to residents and faculty. The
audience loved the film and welcomed the opportunity to interact with
role models and mentors. Similar Global Health Career Nights have since
been held at schools across the country.
If your institution is interested in holding a Global Health Career
Night, contact ASTMH membership manager Buffy Finn.
